08-30-2020 at 09:55 PM War Medal (Mentioned In Despatches)
War Medal (Mentioned In Despatches) On the 14th of June 2020, during the course of the Juno Beach campaign in which B Company were portraying the Nova Scotia Highlanders of Canada, Lance Corporal A. Oscar as a member of No.3 Section of No.4 Platoon, moved as the tip of the spear for the Canadian push south in Normandy. While constantly going head to head with the German front line, casualties began to rise within Oscar’s section and their patience dwindled. While arriving at the D-Day objective town of Buron, Oscar’s section was engaged by a window-mounted MG42 who began to pin down the section and much of the platoon and the resulting fire had immediately killed Oscar’s section commander Acting Sergeant S. Cottitto. While smoke was deployed and the chaos rose as leaders began to organize, Oscar took it upon himself to break away from the platoon and fight his way into the German house, eliminating the machine gun as well as a handful of other German defenders thus allowing the platoon to move into the town. His actions alone saved the lives of numerous of his comrades in arms and paved the way for the liberation of the town.
