05-09-2021 at 03:20 AM War Medal (Mentioned In Despatches)
War Medal (Mentioned In Despatches) First Award: 13-04-20 Private Thompson is without equal in his peer group, having integrated fully into the Red Devils unit as a gunner in the Anti-Tank Section. He has distinguished himself as an expert gunner both with the 6-pounder piece, and man portable anti-tank weaponry, having showcased this recently by downing a Stuka during the Dieppe Raid with a recoilless rifle. Second Award: 08-05-21 A/Sgt. M. Thompson is recommended for commendation for his actions during the COMPASS campaign, specifically by stepping up into the role of Platoon Sergeant on the day of the event and managing said role for the duration of the campaign. The circumstances of the role were far from ideal, new Platoon Commander, a large campaign fought in the desert as motorised infantry, and A/Sgt. M. Thompson being a junior Section Commander. Despite all these circumstances, A/Sgt. M. Thompson performed in the role of Platoon Sergeant at a standard I’d have expected from a seasoned Plt Sgt. He ably managed and controlled Sections during the confusion of mounted warfare, he was quick to handle casualties, organise and bring resupplies to the Platoon, set up Field Dressing Stations, and operate the wireless set when required, as well as constantly directing wireless communication. He swiftly and decisively took command of the Platoon on multiple occasions, when the Platoon Commander was incapacitated, and seamlessly handed control back. A/Sgt. M. Thompson was swift to provide exceptional feedback with events, enabling the Platoon to rapidly better itself during the campaign. He was quick to notice his own shortcomings and inexperience, and made a point of it, and strove to better himself immediately. He was instrumental in the Platoon functioning at the level it did; though far from perfection. He did all this not once, not twice, but every single event of Operation COMPASS, consistently and with a good attitude, despite the circumstances he found himself in. As such, I am recommending him for commendation.
