Privates N. Ramsey and N. Bond have received Mentioned in Despatches for their actions in Operation Ladbroke. During the Italian Counter-Attack at ‘APOLLO’, the enemy engaged in a brutal and effective assault. With the collapse of Section and Platoon structure Privates. N. Ramsey and N. Bond slowed the enemy in a fighting withdrawal, allowing time for the Platoon to consolidate. Both utilised the Bren to maximum effect in maintaining killing fields and allowing the wounded to escape.

Flying Officer J. Sax has received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in Operation Ladbroke. Special mention to his glider calculations got the lads to their designated L.Z.s on target and in good fighting condition. During the taking of ‘MINERVA’, German counter-offensives broke through the Battalion’s lines and came deadly close to cutting off our Company on the mountain fortress. Flying Officer J. Sax first prevented the enemy from encircling us through skilled dive bombing on convoys headed by Panzer IVs, after our Company had captured the mountain, we were set upon by strafing Focke-Wulf 190s pinning us in place until Blue Flight swept in and destroyed the enemy aircraft. Harassing machine gun positions then suppressed our defences whilst the enemy closed in. Flying Officer J. Sax not only destroyed the approaching Panzers, but strafed the enemy machine gun positions, destroying them. Through skillful manoeuvring, precision dive bombing, and pin-point accuracy, our Company was able to fend off close attacks from enemy infantry alone.
