Recruit. J. Laurent is to be commended for his actions during the Juno campaign, specifically actions seen during the final day of it. During the beginning phases of a pitched battle against armoured forces, it was observed that No. 5 Platoon’s PIAT had been lost in the confusion of the situation, and was located fifty metres in front of No. 4 Section’s fallback line, which they had just occupied. Laurent heard leadership calling for the PIAT, explained it’s location, then asked permission to go retrieve it, which was granted. Under the cover of a single smoke grenade and fire from rifles, he ran out of the safety of his trench, into the direct fire of three Panzer IVs and accompanying infantry.
