 On the 20th of June 2020, during the course of the Juno Beach campaign in which B Company were portraying the Nova Scotia Highlanders of Canada, Corporal C. Thorpe as a member of No.5 Section of No.5 Platoon, alongside the tanks of the Sherbrooke Fusiliers joining the Highlanders push into the French town of Authie, German forces that were well dug in using the challenging bocage terrain to their advantage posed a nightmarish environment for Canadian armoured assets. As the tanks arrived in Authie, supported by No. 5 Platoon, a pair of German soldiers began engaging two Canadian tanks with panzerfausts. One tank was immediately hit by a shell whilst the second missed, as the Germans began to rotate to re engage on the exposed tank, Thorpe dashed form the cover of his natural trench and pushed the building alone, eliminating a group of Germans including one preparing to engage the remaining tank. Without the initiative and selflessness of Corporal C. Thorpe the tanks surely would have been eliminated far earlier in the battle, therefore Thorpe’s actions saved countless members of the company and the members and tanks of the Sherbrooke Fusiliers keeping them in the battle for a longer period of time.
