Colour Sergeant D. Thire has received the Military Medal for his actions in the Battle of Tunisia. During No.1 Section’s understrength raid on the mortar battery, Sgt. D. Thire lead the ferocious attack and used smart tactics to keep every man in the fight. His actions lead to the destruction of six mortars with their ammunition vehicles, one PaK40 anti-tank gun, over fifty infantry, and two Panzer IVs; both of which were ambushed. Because of his actions, the artillery shelling B Company was destroyed and any attack the enemy planned on making from that sector was completely and utterly halted.
