190428 Community Update
1500 hrs

This update comes as we near the end of our Singapore deployment. We've got two more events - one being No.6 and the other being a PvP on a week today. After the PvP there will be an awards ceremony where promotions and awards will be given - if you feel someone has done something deserving of an award ( http://reddevilsarma.org/showthread.php?tid=391 ) then please forward this onto Sgt. N. Barden via PM on these forums.

A few concerning points that I want to raise:

        1. When you respawn in an event and you get to re-acquire your loadout, you must not take a loadout you did not have prior to dying. For example, if you were a rifleman at the beginning of an event, do not respawn and grab a Bren gunner's kit.

        2. Any and all complaining or moaning during an event will not be tolerated - this includes about the mission, other players, etc etc. If you have an issue then say it quietly to your commander and they can pass this up the chain of command. All comments can be spoken about in the debrief but should not be raised during the event.

        3. Comments about FPS and Zeus. Yes, my FPS is low too, this is a jungle with lots and lots of AI, no need to say it every 10 seconds - just get on with it. The game master and admins will be more than aware of the issue and will be working as fast as they can to sort the issue. Just recently I had upgraded the server again, and gone to a new provider again in order to ensure maximum server performance. We're experimenting in-game with different server bandwidth settings, mission composition, and AI settings in order to streamline the experience even more. Unfortunately, Singapore has a lot of forestry, and all three maps we have used during the operation string have given us FPS issues on top of all of the assets and AI. Now onto comments about Zeus: again, we are all aware that there is usually a game master acting as Zeus to ensure the event runs smoothly, however, you need not mention their presence in-game. This truly ruins my immersion, if not other people's too. Zeuses do not often micromanage AI, and do not often remote control them, so comments of "why is the Zeus doing this" or "that AI was Zeus controlled" shouldn't be mentioned - they are all the enemy and it doesn't matter.

        4. Orders documents are written and presented to all participating members. I expect them to be read. If you ask a question that is answered clearly in the orders document, don't expect any amusement from me. Turning up to an event with the wrong modset is due to simple incompetence on your behalf.

Moving forward there are going to be a few organisational changes within the community; firstly, as sad as it is to see them go, No.2 Troop will be disbanded. We will no longer be sporting tanks on our official ORBAT. However, the armoured course will continue to run as an additional course, so in the event we do need armoured assets (e.g. for PvP balancing purposes) we can pluck people from all over the group to fill one or two tanks. Secondly, the Support Company will be opening with 2Lt. C. Carrick moving to command it. S Company will not organise as a company, however, will fall under B Company HQ command. Additionally, the Assault Platoon will be operating under Weapons Platoon HQ for the foreseeable future. Mr. Carrick will be commanding the Weapons Platoon ( http://reddevilsarma.org/misc.php?page=ORBAT-B ).

In the Weapons Platoon we will have a Mortars/Vickers section (will specialise in Mortars), a Mortars/Vickers section (will specialise in Vickers), and a AT gun section (will actually be Royal Artillery, but will be under the Weapons Platoon for ease of management). Applications for positions in the Support Company have already gone live and a lot of positions are already taken - no roles are fixed until the ceremony that is coming up, so feel free to get in your applications ( http://reddevilsarma.org/showthread.php?tid=293 - not completely finished ).

Upcoming events include another PvP soon after our Singapore deployment, multiple D-Day orientated events that we are aiming to make into co-operative events with other communities. More information on these is to come, however, all are a logistical nightmare!

Comments from other personnel:
2Lt. C. Carrick has said, "it's been a privilege to lead the men into battle and has rekindled my interest in this wonderful unit and will find solace in knowing No.4 platoon fight at my side in the battles to come".

A/Sgt. J. Ross would like "a mandatory announcement before every event stating '1 section best section' ", however, I am unsure if we will be able to implement this going forward.

Pte. H. McDee from the 7th Armoured Division commented "just wondering, what's the deal with your guys not bandaging themselves? [...] Even the critical ones just stand there screaming they're bleeding out without bandaging themselves". In response to this, I will ensure 16PFA will run basic medical training for the entire group.

Due to multiple members moving over to the Support Company, it may be easier to reorganise No.4 Platoon and mix the sections, however, we will not do this if it would cause unproportionate disruption - so let me know how you feel about this.

Despite a few negative comments in this update, there have been lots and lots of good moments and ideas within the group, however, these will be reserved for the upcoming ceremony where we can reflect on the Battle of Singapore operation string. Please do reply to this thread with any comments you may have.

As always, ready for anything,

190312 Community Update

2300 hrs

After another successful PvP we find ourselves moving towards our next historical operation - the Battle of Singapore - where we will play as part of the 22nd Australian Infantry Brigade. Between the time now and the start of the operation we will be conducting some training exercises in order to better ourselves for what is to come - JUNGLE WARFARE!

In the next few weeks our aim is to get current recruits through their training and to be fully evaluated. Any recruits that have not completed their module I and module II training should speak to their commanders in order to get these sorted. Depending on recruit attendance either a module I or module II session will be run on Sunday and then module III within a week or two - so it is super important to get in on this cycle so you don't have to wait a long time!

Our Cromwells are now fitted with x2 AN/PRC-77 radios. This is the same radio as the infantry and RAF and removes the digital radio from within the tanks. We are now aiming to get a radio within a command jeep, further improving our operational communications. I hope we can all appreciate the custom assets that we strive to provide to make the experience we offer not only unique but also the best within the WW2 allied community.

A few changes will be occurring to the organisation of the group, these are mainly due to more WW2 documentation being found and understood. The first of these changes is the removal of the Platoon AT positions. We believe that Sections were comprised of 10 men (typically), however, one man from each section would be informally taken into Platoon HQ to act as a Bren Gunner and two AT riflemen. Whilst we are removing the AT positions we will be keeping the 9 man sections, unless we need to fit more people in then we can introduce the No.5 rifleman. This does not mean we will not have AT within the Platoon; a PIAT will now be distributed at Section level unless it is needed at HQ level, where HQ will absorb one member from each section. In early war where we do not have the PIAT we may also take two people for the Boys AT rifle. It may be necessary to take two members of No.2 Troop in order to field a Boys AT rifle or PIAT - all mission dependent.

The organisation of the medics is going to change ever so slightly. Whilst researching we found that medical personnel at Platoon level were not part of RAMC or 16th PFA, but were also not actual medics. Of all of the options, we could have chosen from we have decided to keep the medics (now named "Orderlies"). They will be more directly implemented into each platoon / company. They will be displayed alongside the element on the ORBAT and will not receive their own ORBAT page.

Going forward I would like to see applications from people regarding commanding positions (we always need commanders!) and also for wireless operators. As we expand we hope to open up the weapons platoon and specifically the mortar section; this change will require 1-3 new wireless operators. Please also be advised that applications for No.74 Squadron are also still open - know that this is an Officer appointment. I do want to stress for applications for commanding positions. Not only do we have multiple spots open now, but we will also have multiple commanding slots opening soon and it is vital we get these filled.

Modpack 12b will be released with a few changes, so be sure to download any new mods as soon as possible.

Upcoming events include the Singapore operation string and some more joint events in May (we are in very early planning stages). Note that after March 31st the UK will enter daylight savings and therefore the event times will be displayed in BST (GMT+1).

As always please let me know your thoughts on the community, how we can improve, and if you have any questions, concerns, queries, or compliments. I'm sure I will post this an instantly think of something I have missed.

Ready for Anything,

190216 Community Update
2300 hrs

A pilot position within No.74 Squadron has opened up. This position is an officer position and will be difficult to get into. The role will include officer, careers advisor, and staff duties and will require extended dedication to the group. The job description can be found in the usual location in the Careers Office. This second member of No.74 Squadron should allow for more flexibility within our air operations. I'm looking forward to either two C-47s with two full sticks or one C-47 and an escort!

Applications for the medic and medical NCO will close on 01MAR19. All members can apply (recruits included), however, no applications submitted after this date will be considered. After the closing date both roles will be assigned and training given.

Following the cancellation of multiple cooperative events with other groups we will be aiming to replace this around April, however, we'll have to see if this is at all possible closer to the time. Near the end of March we will begin of Singapore operation string - so be prepared for lots of jungle warfare.

As always if you have any concerns, ideas, or wishes please send them up your chain of command and we can put them into our meetings to discuss. The next staff/update meeting has not been scheduled but once it is I'll let everyone know.

After the current recruits have been fully processed and their purple tabs lost, we will start the procedure for opening a weapons section within the support company. The support 'company' will not feature any company positions and will operate at the highest position of two platoons (assault platoon and weapons platoon) - but we won't have any platoon staff for either for a while. The first person to move will be an NCO, likely into a mortar section, and then a few others will follow. We will aim to get a few extra members before we do make this change - we should have two nearly full and active sections.
