190312 Community Update

2300 hrs

After another successful PvP we find ourselves moving towards our next historical operation - the Battle of Singapore - where we will play as part of the 22nd Australian Infantry Brigade. Between the time now and the start of the operation we will be conducting some training exercises in order to better ourselves for what is to come - JUNGLE WARFARE!

In the next few weeks our aim is to get current recruits through their training and to be fully evaluated. Any recruits that have not completed their module I and module II training should speak to their commanders in order to get these sorted. Depending on recruit attendance either a module I or module II session will be run on Sunday and then module III within a week or two - so it is super important to get in on this cycle so you don't have to wait a long time!

Our Cromwells are now fitted with x2 AN/PRC-77 radios. This is the same radio as the infantry and RAF and removes the digital radio from within the tanks. We are now aiming to get a radio within a command jeep, further improving our operational communications. I hope we can all appreciate the custom assets that we strive to provide to make the experience we offer not only unique but also the best within the WW2 allied community.

A few changes will be occurring to the organisation of the group, these are mainly due to more WW2 documentation being found and understood. The first of these changes is the removal of the Platoon AT positions. We believe that Sections were comprised of 10 men (typically), however, one man from each section would be informally taken into Platoon HQ to act as a Bren Gunner and two AT riflemen. Whilst we are removing the AT positions we will be keeping the 9 man sections, unless we need to fit more people in then we can introduce the No.5 rifleman. This does not mean we will not have AT within the Platoon; a PIAT will now be distributed at Section level unless it is needed at HQ level, where HQ will absorb one member from each section. In early war where we do not have the PIAT we may also take two people for the Boys AT rifle. It may be necessary to take two members of No.2 Troop in order to field a Boys AT rifle or PIAT - all mission dependent.

The organisation of the medics is going to change ever so slightly. Whilst researching we found that medical personnel at Platoon level were not part of RAMC or 16th PFA, but were also not actual medics. Of all of the options, we could have chosen from we have decided to keep the medics (now named "Orderlies"). They will be more directly implemented into each platoon / company. They will be displayed alongside the element on the ORBAT and will not receive their own ORBAT page.

Going forward I would like to see applications from people regarding commanding positions (we always need commanders!) and also for wireless operators. As we expand we hope to open up the weapons platoon and specifically the mortar section; this change will require 1-3 new wireless operators. Please also be advised that applications for No.74 Squadron are also still open - know that this is an Officer appointment. I do want to stress for applications for commanding positions. Not only do we have multiple spots open now, but we will also have multiple commanding slots opening soon and it is vital we get these filled.

Modpack 12b will be released with a few changes, so be sure to download any new mods as soon as possible.

Upcoming events include the Singapore operation string and some more joint events in May (we are in very early planning stages). Note that after March 31st the UK will enter daylight savings and therefore the event times will be displayed in BST (GMT+1).

As always please let me know your thoughts on the community, how we can improve, and if you have any questions, concerns, queries, or compliments. I'm sure I will post this an instantly think of something I have missed.

Ready for Anything,

A pilot position within No.74 Squadron has opened up. This position is an officer position and will be difficult to get into. The role will include officer, careers advisor, and staff duties and will require extended dedication to the group. The job description can be found in the usual location in the Careers Office. This second member of No.74 Squadron should allow for more flexibility within our air operations. I'm looking forward to either two C-47s with two full sticks or one C-47 and an escort!

Applications for the medic and medical NCO will close on 01MAR19. All members can apply (recruits included), however, no applications submitted after this date will be considered. After the closing date both roles will be assigned and training given.

Following the cancellation of multiple cooperative events with other groups we will be aiming to replace this around April, however, we'll have to see if this is at all possible closer to the time. Near the end of March we will begin of Singapore operation string - so be prepared for lots of jungle warfare.

As always if you have any concerns, ideas, or wishes please send them up your chain of command and we can put them into our meetings to discuss. The next staff/update meeting has not been scheduled but once it is I'll let everyone know.

After the current recruits have been fully processed and their purple tabs lost, we will start the procedure for opening a weapons section within the support company. The support 'company' will not feature any company positions and will operate at the highest position of two platoons (assault platoon and weapons platoon) - but we won't have any platoon staff for either for a while. The first person to move will be an NCO, likely into a mortar section, and then a few others will follow. We will aim to get a few extra members before we do make this change - we should have two nearly full and active sections.

This helps to give recognition for individuals within game and not just on the forums or TeamSpeak 3 server."

190128 Community Update
1900 hrs

In an ongoing effort from myself and the senior staff team, we wish to ensure that we communicate with the group as a whole so everyone is informed of the current situation and the plans henceforth.

Medic roles have become open and multiple applications have already been received. I will be looking at these applications soon and will be processing them whether the applicant is a full-member or a recruit. Nearly all of those who apply and are successful will undergo advanced medical training, however, not all will be placed within a medical role. The medical course will allow for a patch on your battledress and will allow us to have reserve medics, should the situation and need arise. Having more people medically qualified will mean the introduction of medical assistants as a role within the section (albeit not fixed- like the marksman role). More information to come on this role in the future.

Weapon qualifications will also be undergoing a change; the Anti-Tank qualification will soon be available for all to apply for. The course will consist of learning about the PIAT and the Boys AT rifle and then you will have time to practise with both weapons. After completion of the course to an appropriate standard you will be able to have the AT badge on your battledress. Completing the course will also allow for you to take a PIAT within a session; however, this will only be the case when the role has been filtered and delegated down from the Platoon HQ. It will be imperative for those in No.2 Troop to partake in this course if they wish to play the role of vehicular reconnaissance in a jeep.

The marksman role, once a course has been constructed for it, will be available for people to partake in. The course will be required to use the Enfield (T) within a mission (anyone can use it within a training). You will be able to fail the course. A pass with a certain score (to be decided upon still) will award the member with an additional badge - the sharpshooter badge. Again, more information to following.

Due to more recruits joining we have had to open 3 Section temporarily - this is just so we have a space to show these members. We will soon™ be holding a module III so recruits can become glorious privates. Once this occurs we will move them into their desired roles and the ORBAT should look cleaner and less cluttered with those purple tabs! If you are a recruit who has not completed both module I and module II I urge that you contact Sgt. N. Barden to organise a time you can do this so that you don't miss out on this recruit cycle - it could be a long time until the next module III comes around. However, be aware that being a recruit will not limit what you can do within the unit, apart from changing your role.

As always I urge everyone to apply for any position they would like and pass any comments through the chain of command - I like to hear your ideas! Lots of good things coming within the next few months so please do enjoy yourselves.

Thank you all for making Red Devils what it is and what it shall further grow to be,
