Lance Corporal S. Cottitto
Quote:Throughout the months of January to February while fighting as a Paratrooper in the Battle of Bure during the Ardennes Campaign, Lance Corporal S. Cottitto performed excellently in his service to his section and the platoon. He demonstrated effective leadership in the face of overwhelming odds, including while his platoon’s position was threatened to be overrun by enemy forces and supplies were low.
On multiple occasions during the prolonged battle, Lance Corporal S. Cottitto took command of the section when his Section Commander was thought to have been killed or rendered unconscious. He immediately disregarded any doubt in his own ability to lead and rallied the remaining troops to keep on fighting. His initiative in continuing the fight despite losses to his men resulted in giving the section the inspiration to keep on fighting and finally rout the enemy from the town of Bure.
Although there is no specific event to single out his heroics demonstrated throughout this campaign, over the distance of this event Lance Corporal S. Cottitto has shown the true qualities of a Red Devils member. He has done this by showing love and respect for the men under his care and by demonstrating the spirit and courage necessary to lead them whenever the need arises.
His dedication through attendance, communication and combat goes above and beyond what is required for his role and through his trials and tribulations Lance Corporal S. Cottitto has proven to be one of the best soldiers in the platoon.
Well done to all.
