The following personnel have been awarded the MILITARY MEDAL:

Lance Corporal S. Cottitto

Quote:Throughout the months of January to February while fighting as a Paratrooper in the Battle of Bure during the Ardennes Campaign, Lance Corporal S. Cottitto performed excellently in his service to his section and the platoon. He demonstrated effective leadership in the face of overwhelming odds, including while his platoon’s position was threatened to be overrun by enemy forces and supplies were low.

On multiple occasions during the prolonged battle, Lance Corporal S. Cottitto took command of the section when his Section Commander was thought to have been killed or rendered unconscious. He immediately disregarded any doubt in his own ability to lead and rallied the remaining troops to keep on fighting. His initiative in continuing the fight despite losses to his men resulted in giving the section the inspiration to keep on fighting and finally rout the enemy from the town of Bure.

Although there is no specific event to single out his heroics demonstrated throughout this campaign, over the distance of this event Lance Corporal S. Cottitto has shown the true qualities of a Red Devils member. He has done this by showing love and respect for the men under his care and by demonstrating the spirit and courage necessary to lead them whenever the need arises.

His dedication through attendance, communication and combat goes above and beyond what is required for his role and through his trials and tribulations Lance Corporal S. Cottitto has proven to be one of the best soldiers in the platoon.

Well done to all.

Community Update No.10

14JAN20 0105 hrs UTC+0

On the 25th January 2020 we'll be embarking on the first mission in our operation string for the Ardennes Offensive. This will be a four-mission long string that will likely end with a fifth event as a PvP, however, this is still being organised. On top of this, we are also scheduling another PvP with the 23rd Panzer Division, likely to occur late February time - the scenario for this is to be chosen during a meeting this weekend. After our operation string finishes, we'll be covering some basic training points, ensuring we're on top of our game as we move forward; we'll also be covering some PvP themed training sessions.

A few roles are opening within Company HQ: runner and wireless operator. Job descriptions for both of the roles can be found in the usual place in the Enlisted Careers category on the forums. The Company Runner job is a special one where at certain times they will be mounted on a Welbike. In addition to these new roles, I'd like to take the time to advertise the medic roles available and if anyone would like to become a medic (recruits included) they should get their application in.

If anyone has any ideas for the group then please make sure you let us know, either through a poll in the Questionnaires and Polls category on the forums or in the #member-ideas channel on Discord. We're always looking to improve and to have new ideas come our way - though be warned that people may not agree with you!

I'd like to give my gratitude to everyone who has been posting media in our #arma-unit-media channel on Discord. Media like this showcases the group and the environment that we play in (even showing some of the bugs that we encounter on the way) and can really help our goal of recruitment of new members. Speaking of new members, we have a lot of new recruits who have recently joined us and many are on track to complete their module III assessment on Saturday - I wish good luck to you all. Current members should prepare to have fresh faces coming into their sections soon and you should try and help these new members integrate as successfully as possible. They are being thrown straight into the deep end in the Ardennes and some may require your assistance.

Amendment 1: We have recently updated our fire rates and information on fire control orders. These changes can be found in Module I on pages 20 and 21. The changes to fire rates can be found below:

Amendment 2: Coming on Sunday.
After the ceremony on Sunday, there will be an amendment to the end of this update.

Ready for Anything.

2019 Ending Comments

02JAN20 2345 hrs UTC+0

We have had an amazing year in 2019 - we've had many come and unfortunately some go. In 2020 I want us to push our limits further, expanding in size and capacity.

We've shown that as a group we are extremely strong and can punch well above our manpower. We have custom assets within game, historically accurate missions down to some fine details, and a great sense of camaraderie. I believe we are offering the best British WW2 experience in the Arma 3 scene and even when compared against other games such as Post Scriptum. This is something that I want to continue and improve going through 2020.

Our missions team is growing and this will allow us to create more detailed scenarios and will help spread the load of the work. We have a plan on the operation strings in 2020 and are already being worked on. Our NCO team is based on solid foundations and we continue to expand on this as time goes on. Every member is trained to a high standard and everyone continues to perform at this level.

Some issues that were present within the questionnaire that people filled out will be rectified and action taken to ensure we fix some of these minor points. The review was overwhelming positive - both of the systems we have in place and also the personnel within the group.

Moving into 2020, Company HQ will aim to ensure backend work is completed such as administration standard operation procedures, service records, and new training material gets completed. I request that Platoon HQs aim to ensure personnel continue their training before our deployment to the Ardennes. Platoons should concentrate on Platoon level tactics, in both offensive and defensive manners, before our deployment. Section NCOs should begin to try and take more control over their sections and should aim to be more responsible for their members - help out your Platoon Commanders as much as possible. Individuals should ensure they are signing up to events and turning up to events on time. Whenever possible help your NCOs out by taking your own initiative in setting up, reporting on ammunition status, watching and organising arcs of fire, etc.

Ready for Anything.
